HOW FRESH CAN YOU GET?

ONE OF OUR TOWN'S RESIDENTS ENJOYING THE FARMERS MARKET

Today I finally took advantage of the Farmers Market that sets up in my town, literally at the foot of old Stoney Hill. Every Wednesday (July through October), local farmers set up their tents along the scenic Great Miami River and offer fresh-from-the-field produce, baked goods, honey, and homemade jams, jellies, and pickles. The market is less than five minutes from my home and I pass it on my way into town. Every time I see it, I vow to stop "on the way back home", but I either forget or I'm running short on time. Today I took time to stop and shop.

The market is a feast for the eyes and the aroma of fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods is intoxicating. I love the setting and apparently many other town residents enjoy it too, since there always seem to be crowds around the tents.

I bought white sweet corn in the husk, red radishes, rhubarb, beautiful ripe red tomatoes, and a package of homemade cinnamon rolls. The farmer selling the corn said it had been picked four hours ago. Now that's fresh! I can't wait for next Wednesday.
