JAZZY EVENING

11.10 - By Unknown 0

Last night, Spouse and I attended our freshman grandson's last jazz band concert of the school year. Every concert has seemed better than the last. The band instructor teaches in diverse ways and is so supportive of the students. The instructor, being a jazz trumpter himself, makes good use of student teachers and personal friends for whom jazz is a passion. His special guest last night was Armand Luckey - affectionately called "Mr. Lucky" - and he, along with the instructor and the student teacher, presented some solo work as well as playing along with the students. I'm sure the band members will remember those performances for a long time.

Last night's concert included contemporary music mixed with the stylings of such greats as Benny Goodman, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker. The band has consistently played tunes from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It's so much fun to sit and listen to songs some of us enjoyed years ago. I don't think Grandson has any idea how many memories that music evokes. All he knows is that he's having a great time playing his trombone (note the photo of his solo)
and as our daughter said, "This is IT for him. He's in his element". We're all very proud of him.
